Industrial testing of a slurry pump's flow-through section with Element parts has been completed at one of the gold mining and processing plants. According to the testing results, the service life of the metal wear plate was 3380 motor hours. Previously, a rubber wear plate from FLSmidth* was installed on the equipment, which operated for a maximum of 900 hours. The customer contacted Mining Element to select parts with a longer service life. The company's engineers studied the pump's operating conditions and found that the ore composition had changed. Rubber, from which the original part was made, is a soft material and is not suitable for increased loads, which is why the FLSmidth* parts wore out so quickly. The new wear plate was cast from wear-resistant cast iron with 27% chromium added. Mining Element engineers also made changes to the part's design by removing the adjustment of the gap between the wear plate and the impeller.
